Producer Case Study: Langit Biru

Langit Biru was founded in 1983 under the name Dewata Silver. It was a small company based in Bali, owned by Mr. Peter, whose family have been goldsmiths for over 100 years.

In 1986 Dewata Silver changed their name to Langit Biru.

In 1983 the company had just two employees, now it has over 200. The staff comprise office personnel and craftsmen and women, who create the products by hand.

In 1993 Langit Biru began to expand its product range.
Over 80 % of the handicrafts produced are created by women, who tend to have a more meticulous approach
and an eye for special detail, which both ensure high quality
finished products.

Mr. Peter is keen to ensure that all of his employees are well taken care of: He provides housing and financial support for over 50 members of staff who originate from other provinces in Indonesia.

Today, Langit Biru has a varied market and exports to the USA, Australia and Japan, as well as to Europe.

Mr. Peter is a strong force and a representative of high quality within the silver industry, and he is always on the look
out for further creative designs to carry on his family’s tradition.
He sees the business as something good for both himself
and his staff: "Without his staff, Mr. Peter is just Mr. Peter."
