Our Ethos
At By Hand we believe that business can be ethical.
We are a small company with the aim of promoting the beautiful handicrafts that are produced by the highly talented craftsmen and women on the island of Bali.
We are committed to fair trade principles. We work closely with Arum Dalu Mekar - a fair trade organisation in Bali with World Fair Trade Organisation (formerly IFAT) membership - to ensure that our producers are treated in such a way that their work is rewarded with the payment that it deserves. By exporting their products, we provide the local producers in the villages of Bali with a market for their beautiful handicrafts, whilst Arum Dalu Mekar guarantees that the producers are paid a fair wage and have good working conditions.
Arum Dalu Mekar helps to raise environmental awareness amongst the producers in Bali
and is currently developing a range of recycled products.. Meanwhile, here at By Hand
we are also committed to minimising our impact on the environment. The paper and
packaging that we use is sourced from within the UK and is either recycled or derived
from sustainable resources.
Beautiful products should not come at the cost of exploitation.
The products in the By Hand catalogue can be enjoyed guilt-free; in the knowledge
that their purchase will directly benefit the producers themselves.
